Most Successful Team–New York Yankees

Most successful professional sports franchise in North American history with 27 World Series championships in 40 appearances.  (Hockey’s Montreal Canadiens are runners up with 24 championships in 33 finals appearances.   St Louis Cardinals baseball’s runners up with 11 & 19). No Yankees WS wins in 11 years and only 1 in 20.

Interlocking NY designed by Louis Tiffany of Tiffany & Co. in 1877 for NYPD medal. First used by Yankees–then Highlanders–in 1909.

Luckiest Man

New York Yankees star “Larrupin’ Lou” Gehrig was born on New York’s Upper East Side, attended Columbia University on the Upper West Side and played baseball in The Bronx.  Known as the “Iron Horse” because of his durability on the baseball diamond (14 consecutive seasons without missing a game), but not so in life, as due to ALS disease, at age 37 his “luck” ran out.
